Dr. Joyce Brothers, Mother of Media Psychology exhibit

Come to this exhibit highlighting the life and career of Dr. Joyce Brothers, one of the most prolific professionals and celebrities of the last century! No matter your age, you’ve likely encountered at some point in your life, whether you watched her television shows, listened to her advice on the radio, read her columns in Good Housekeeping, or spotted her in one of her innumerable cameo and game show appearances. A Cornell alumna, Dr. Brothers was omnipresent in American media for over 50 years. A natural-born entertainer, she was first and foremost a mental health professional, often referred to as “the mother of media psychology,” who sought to do the most good for the largest number of people. The professional advice she offered to people around the country in the comfort of their own living rooms helped normalize therapy and the public discussion of mental health once deemed too private for broadcast television. Dr. Brothers graduated from Cornell University in 1947 and began donating her material to the Cornell archives in 1987. This exhibit was made possible through the generous support of the Stephen E. ’58 MBA ’59 and Evalyn Edwards ’60 Milman Exhibition Fund, with additional contributions from the Brothers family.

You will get a glimpse of one of the earliest parts of Cornell's history: the Collections are in one of the oldest buildings on campus, originally built as the University Museum, and include pieces acquired by A.D. White and other original faculty members. See interesting pieces of human history, meet the curator, and experience a part of Cornell that many never see!

The Cornell Concert Commission Homecoming Show

The Cornell Concert Commission is excited to present Yves Tumor performing our Homecoming Show on Saturday, September 30th at 7PM in Barton Hall! Tickets for alumni are $17 in advance; more at the door. Raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, experimental rockstar and producer Yves Tumor began releasing music under the moniker in 2015 with an EP for Berlin’s experimental club label Janus followed by an EP for Mykki Blanco’s record label Dogwood. In 2015, Tumor debuted with "When Man Fails You" featuring the ambient classic "Limerence." Released the following year, Tumor’s second studio album "Serpent Music" displays a soul influenced hypnotic-noise masterpiece that laid the foundation for Tumor’s otherworldly innovation. Tumor has since released three albums, all receiving mass critical acclaim, including Pitchfork's Best New Album. Tumor’s 2018 record, "Safe in The Hands of Love," explores intense feelings of love and torture both lyrically and sonically, winning the Libera Awards' Best Dance/Electronic Record in 2019. "Heaven to a Tortured Mind" (2020) garnered Tumor a dedicated fanbase enthralled by Tumor’s eclectic rock sound and glam. This past March, Tumor released their fifth studio album, "Praise a Lord Who Chews but Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds)." Tumor exhibits a blend of eccentricity and high-level production, defining what it means to be a rockstar in 2023. With the help of producer Noah Goldstein (Frank Ocean, Drake, Rihanna) and sound engineer Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Nine Inch Nails), Tumor establishes themself as one of the most novel minds in music today. Tumor’s ability to consistently create critically acclaimed yet deeply unconventional records bleeds into their theatrical visuals and celestial live performances. Yves Tumor is an artist in every sense of the word. Follow us on Instagram @cornellconcerts or visit our website https://blogs.cornell.edu/concerts/ for updates about the show!
